Salt marshes of Fuentealbilla Nature · Fuentealbilla, La Manchuela, Albacete Image of Fuentealbilla, not of the place itself. Old salt works exploited from Roman times until the 1990s, whose whitish waters gave the municipality its name, derived from the Latin albus, white. The Roman settlement itself was probably due to these salt works, given the great value of salt in antiquity; according to Madoz's dictionary, in the mid-19th century some 4,000 to 5,000 arrobas of good-quality water-salt were produced there annually.
