From La Toz to Alatoz

The municipality was originally called La Toz, from which the present name derives; the popular belief that it comes from the expression vamos al hato has no basis. The 1591 census attributed to it only seventeen households, and its population reached its peak in 1930 with 1,873 inhabitants, a figure that has declined over time to the 506 inhabitants recorded in 2025.
