The first wine Denominación de Origen created in the Canary Islands, recognised by order of the Canary Islands Government's Department of Agriculture and Fisheries of 22 January 1992. The protected area stretches 23 kilometres along the northern side of Tenerife, with 1,583 hectares of vineyard spread across Tacoronte, La Laguna, Tegueste, El Rosario, Santa Cruz (Anaga), El Sauzal, La Matanza, La Victoria and Santa Úrsula, and is best known for its young red wines.
