During the War of Jenkins' Ear, English corsairs landed from the sloop Vernon were defeated twice by the Majorero popular militia: on 13 October 1740 at the battle of El Cuchillete, near Gran Tarajal, with 33 of the 53 attackers killed, and on 24 November of the same year at the battle of Tamasite, on the Llano Florido, next to the mountain that gives it its name.
