Over the old Imperial Irrigation Channel of Carlos I, begun in 1528, Ramón Pignatelli directed from 1776 the construction of the Imperial Canal of Aragon, completed in 1790. Its 110 kilometres cross the comarca and transformed the dry farmland into irrigated land.
