Archaeological site of Arcóbriga Nature · Monreal de Ariza, Comunidad de Calatayud, Zaragoza Arcóbriga was a Celtiberian and, later, Roman city belonging to Tarraconensis. Its remains stand on the Cerro Villar, on the right bank of the river Jalón, about two kilometres west of the town centre of Monreal de Ariza, in the comarca of the Comunidad de Calatayud. The city occupies a hill terraced on three levels, girded by a wall that in some stretches reaches three metres in thickness; inside, baths, temples and Romanised dwellings have been identified. It was excavated between 1908 and 1911 by the Marquis of Cerralbo, whose work has since been reviewed. Declared a historic-artistic monument in 1931, it has been a Conjunto de Interés Cultural (site of cultural interest) since 2002, and the National Archaeological Museum holds its most important material remains. siglo II a.
