The caliph Abd al-Rahman III camped before the walls of this castle of the Jiloca valley during his campaigns against the rebels of the Upper March, and the caliphal troops occupied it in 937. Alfonso I incorporated it into Aragon in 1120; remains of rammed earth are left on the hill.
