Thermal Waters of Alhama and Jaraba Curiosity · Alhama de Aragón, Comunidad de Calatayud, Zaragoza Image of Alhama de Aragón, not of the place itself. In Alhama de Aragón there rises a thermal lake unique in Spain, of almost two hectares and with two islands, fed by waters that emerge at 34 degrees; the municipality also has eight springs of bicarbonated, calcic, nitrogenous, arsenical, hyperthermal and radioactive waters. The Roman place name Aquae Bilbilitanorum, recorded in the Antonine Itinerary, suggests that the hot springs were already known in Roman times, and in the 19th century the archaeologist Cea Bermúdez claimed to have seen remains of those installations. The Baño del Moro and the Baño de la Mora are still preserved, two basins carved into the rock from which the thermal water flows directly; Madoz's Dictionary, in 1845, already spoke of 30 or 40 mineral springs in the town.
