Monastery of Santa Fe de Cuarte de Huerva Monument · Cuarte de Huerva, Comarca Central, Zaragoza The Monastery of Santa Fe, in the municipal area of Cuarte de Huerva, was a Cistercian monastery founded in 1341 by Miguel Pérez Zapata, with monks from Fonclara. In 1443 Alfonso V granted it high and low criminal jurisdiction, and in 1808, during the siege of Zaragoza, French troops looted and burned it, killing several monks; in 1835 it was disentailed under Mendizábal's laws. The present building, Baroque-Classicist and largely from the 18th century, preserves a doorway from 1797 and a walled enclosure with cylindrical towers. Declared a national monument in 1979, it is now privately owned, largely abandoned, and a regular destination for cycle-touring routes.
