Church of Tauste Monument · Tauste, Cinco Villas, Zaragoza The church of Santa María de Tauste, dedicated to the Virgen María, was built in Mudéjar style between the 13th and 14th centuries, in brick laid in a soga y tizón bond with plaster. Its tower, octagonal in plan, corresponds to the old minaret of the mosque that once occupied the site and is one of the best-preserved Mudéjar towers in Aragón. Inside, with a single nave of three bays and a semicircular apse, the 16th-century Renaissance main altarpiece stands out, with architecture by Gil Morlanes the Younger and sculpture by Gabriel Yoly and Juan de Salas, restored in 2007. It was declared a historic-artistic monument and Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) on 3 June 1931. Photo: Ecelan (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Tauste
