After the painter's birth it passed through various hands and became the village inn, until in 1913 Ignacio Zuloaga and other artists located a plaque identifying it; Zuloaga bought it in 1916. In 1982 it was declared a national historic-artistic monument and its restoration began; the museum opened to the public in 1985. It is a house of typical village construction, with three floors joined by a staircase, and in 1996 an annexed temporary exhibition hall was inaugurated.
