Landscape around Chiprana Nature · Chiprana, Bajo Aragón-Caspe, Zaragoza Image of Chiprana, not of the place itself. Steppe and dry-farming landscape around Chiprana (Bajo Aragón-Caspe, Zaragoza), next to the municipality's salt lagoons, declared a Managed Nature Reserve of the Saladas de Chiprana. The surroundings are characterized by paleochannels between which depressions of varying size appear, with Aleppo pine woods on the hillocks and dry-farmed and irrigated crops on the flatter land; agriculture is the main activity. The central lagoon, with permanent water, covers 31 hectares with a maximum depth of 5.6 meters and is the only deep, permanent-water saline endorheic lagoon in western Europe, with pioneer vegetation of saltwort and Mediterranean plants such as thyme and rosemary.
