The festivities of Ródenas are celebrated in a municipality whose fortress, at the northern edge of the Sierra de Albarracín, had García Fernández de Heredia as its warden (alcaide) between 1301 and 1315, under Jaime II; it retained its rights over the communal patrimony when the Comunidad de Santa María de Albarracín was exempted from the 1837 decree that dissolved the Aragonese communities of villages.
