Declared Monumento Histórico-Artístico (Spain's heritage designation in force between 1931 and 1985) in 1980, Mirambel received the following year the Europa Nostra Gold Medal for its restoration, presented by Queen Sofía. In 1994 Ken Loach filmed part of Land and Freedom there.
