Historic Ensemble of Mirambel Monument · Mirambel, Maestrazgo, Teruel The medieval walled town of Mirambel (Maestrazgo, Teruel), declared Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) in 1980 and awarded in 1981 the Europa Nostra Gold Medal for its restoration work, presented in person by Queen Sofía; it is one of the best-preserved historic ensembles in Aragón. It retains almost the whole town wall with two of its towers, the Gate of the Nuns, former convents, the Renaissance town hall completed in 1615, and palaces such as the Aliaga House and the Castellot House. Director Ken Loach shot much of his film Land and Freedom (1994) here, making use of its intact historic architecture. Photo: Juan Emilio Prades Bel (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Mirambel
