Cella Spring Nature · Cella, Comunidad de Teruel, Teruel Image of Cella, not of the place itself. Historic spring of Cella, one of the most abundant in Spain, with an average flow of about 3500 litres per second, the source of the medieval irrigation system of the Vega del Jiloca and of the Jiloca river itself. This artesian well, among the largest and deepest in Europe, was built in the 12th century and was embellished between 1729 and 1731 by the engineer Domingo Ferrari by order of the Aragonese court; its elliptical pool measures 34.83 by 24.84 metres and between 9 and 11.5 metres deep. It feeds three irrigation channels that water seven municipalities and has been a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) since 1983.
