Church of Alcorisa Monument · Alcorisa, Bajo Aragón, Teruel The parish church of Alcorisa (Bajo Aragón, Teruel), dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption, began to be built in the late 14th century, although its current structure comes mainly from an extension begun in 1688. The doorway, Baroque in style, is probably the work of French stonemasons, and its 18th-century bell tower, with Mudejar echoes, stands out. It is a building with three naves with side chapels and a straight east end, the presbytery covered by a star-ribbed vault. The original altarpiece, the work of the sculptor Damián Forment, was destroyed and burned during the unrest of the Civil War. The complex was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) in 2002. Alcorisa is, moreover, one of the towns on the Ruta del Tambor y el Bombo.
