The caravan of women to Plan

After watching a western film in the bar titled precisely Caravana de mujeres (1951), the unmarried residents of Plan, in the Huesca Pyrenees, decided to imitate it: at the time the village had more than forty unmarried men and only one unmarried woman, since most had emigrated. They placed an advertisement in the newspaper looking for women between 20 and 40 years old for marriage in a Pyrenean village; in 1985 more than eighty women arrived by bus, and the gathering resulted in 33 marriages that breathed renewed vitality into the village.
