Tradition places in 1283 the apparition of the Virgin to a shepherd on the hill of Leciñena, the origin of the sanctuary of Magallón. The building was sacked and burned by the French troops in 1809 and rebuilt afterwards; it remains the centre of a comarca pilgrimage festival.
