The death of Joaquín Costa Historical milestone · Graus, La Ribagorza, Huesca Image of Graus, not of the place itself. Joaquín Costa Martínez, born in Monzón on the 14th of September 1846, moved to Graus a few years after his birth, where he began his studies at the town's chair of Latinity before training in Huesca and earning doctorates in Law and in Philosophy and Letters in Madrid. Having become the foremost representative of Spanish regenerationism, he died in 1911 in the town where he had spent his youth. The Government wanted to bury him in Madrid, but popular reaction kept the coffin in Zaragoza, where some forty thousand people accompanied his burial. 8 de febrero de 1911 Photo: sergioski1982 (CC BY-SA 2.0) What to see and do in Graus
