Castle of la Mora Monument · Peralta de Calasanz, La Litera, Huesca A castle located about two kilometres south of Peralta de la Sal, in the municipality of Peralta de Calasanz, also known as the castle of Monmagastre after the village that grew up around it and which was abandoned in the late Middle Ages. Probably of Roman origin, it was reused by the Muslims as part of Lérida's line of defences against the county of Ribagorza, until Ermengol IV of Urgel conquered it in 1083; in the 15th century it passed into the hands of the Lanuza family. Remains of two walled enclosures survive: in the lower one, the base of two towers and a large cistern suggesting a sizeable garrison, and in the upper one, a 14th-century keep, the best-preserved part of the complex.
