Castillo de Monda Monument · Monda, Sierra de las Nieves, Málaga Fortress of Umayyad origin (9th-10th centuries) linked to the revolt of Umar ibn Hafsun; after being abandoned it was reoccupied by the Almohads in the 12th century, who built the main enclosure with an outer bailey, keep, towers, and cistern, and a polygonal tower decorated with "cords of eternity". The Nasrids reinforced it and added a wall of more than 300 meters that protected nearly a hundred dwellings. After the Christian conquest it was dismantled to prevent uprisings; between 1989 and 1991, following emergency archaeological excavations, it was converted into a hotel.
