Village
Its name comes from the Latin Monte Sacrum; after the Reconquest the Catholic Monarchs granted it as a lordship to the Count of Benavente. In 1810, during the Peninsular War, local guerrilla fighters clashed with Napoleonic troops on the bridge over the Gaduares river. It now has fewer than 1,000 inhabitants.

16th-century church, remodelled in the 18th, in late Gothic style, which preserves the ribbed vault over the presbytery.

Nature
