12th-century fortress-palace of Islamic origin, rebuilt by the Order of Calatrava, with a 40-meter tower that withstood the 1408 Nasrid siege; the church of Santa María la Mayor was declared a monumento histórico-artístico (the heritage protection category used between 1931 and 1985) by decree of 3 June 1931.
