Village
Of Phoenician origin, in the Arab period it belonged to the taha of Órgiva; between 1550 and 1570 the forced conversion of the Moriscos depopulated the area, which did not recover population until the resettlements of the 18th century. In 2025 it has 491 inhabitants.

Sierra de Lújar
Nature
The Sierra de Lújar dominates the north of the municipality; the altitude of its territory ranges from the 1,844 m of the Pelaos peak down to sea level at Cambriles beach.

The municipality preserves several rural cisterns and a network of irrigation channels and ponds of Morisco origin, still used for irrigation today.
La huida de los moriscos de Lújar

Between 1550 and 1570 the forced conversion of the Mudejars caused much of Lújar's Morisco population to flee; 18th-century resettlement restored prosperity through vineyards and mining.
