Castle of Aznalmara Monument · Benaocaz, Sierra de Cádiz, Cádiz The Castle of Aznalmara, or of Tavizna, is a Nasrid fortification of the 13th-14th centuries, built on the top of a hill overlooking the bank of the Tavizna river, at a strategic point on the routes into the Sierra de Cádiz, in the district of Tavizna, within Benaocaz. Now in ruins, it retains the essential elements of medieval military architecture: sturdy stretches of wall and square towers topped with battlements. It was conquered by the Christians in 1410 and again in 1485; its state of conservation is poor, although it retains the grandeur of its original appearance.
