Monastery of Caños Santos Monument · Alcalá del Valle, Sierra de Cádiz, Cádiz The convent of Caños Santos is actually located in the municipality of Olvera, although it is owned by the town council of Alcalá del Valle, in a setting of great scenic value. Its origins go back to the 16th century, when the Count of Ureña and Morón donated land to build a hermitage dedicated to Nuestra Señora de Caños Santos; as devotion grew, the convent and house were built in 1542, although its fabric shows interventions from the 17th and 18th centuries. Nearby are the cave where, according to popular belief, the Virgin appeared, and the springs that give the site its name. In 1835 the image was permanently moved to Cañete la Real (Málaga), of which it is the patroness. After centuries of ruin, it is now undergoing restoration. s.
