Convent of las Clarisas de la Inmaculada Concepción de Cieza

Monument · Cieza, Vega Alta del Segura, Murcia

The convent of the Poor Clares of the Inmaculada Concepción, on the calle Mesones in Cieza, was founded in 1750 by Matías Marín-Blázquez; the first nuns came from the monastery of the Encarnación in Mula. In later years extension work was carried out, soon insufficient for the high number of nuns who had entered. The convent and its church form an 18th-century Baroque work arranged around a square courtyard of notable architectural quality. Within its cloister are kept paintings, sculptures and objects by various artists, a heritage of religious imagery linked to the Holy Week of Cieza.
