Patronal Festival of San Agustín and the Virgen de la Cabeza

The patron saint festivities of San Agustín and the Virgen de la Cabeza, in Ojós, are held from 26 to 29 August, with a procession of both images and a striking pyrotechnic display closing the festivities. On the 27th Santa Mónica, mother of San Agustín, is remembered, and the 28th is the main day: the processions of both patron saints converge around eleven at night on the old puente del Barranco, where the Cohetada is set off, a mechanised night-time discharge that its organisers present as the most important of its kind in the world, using close to a tonne of pyrotechnic material and lasting seven to eight minutes. It is organised by the town council, the Peña Cohetera de Ojós and the Pibierzo fireworks company.
