The Order of St. John and the settlement charter

Historical milestone · Archena, Valle de Ricote, Murcia

Image of Archena, not of the place itself.

Archena did not follow the fate of the rest of the valley: it was handed to the Order of Saint John and integrated into the commandery of Calasparra. The Hospitallers granted a carta puebla in 1462 to attract residents and sustained a lordship that lasted until the reforms of the 19th century.
