Castle of la Puebla o de Alcalá Monument · Mula, Río Mula, Murcia A 12th-century castle in the hamlet of La Puebla de Mula, of Muslim origin: some authors trace its founding back to the 8th century. It preserves the only elbow-shaped gate in the whole Region of Murcia, and today the access gate and the cisterns can be visited. It played a strategic role in the incorporation of the kingdom of Murcia into the Crown of Castile in the 13th century, and it is declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection).
