Vino de la Tierra (Country Wine) of Abanilla Curiosity · Abanilla, Oriental, Murcia Image of Abanilla, not of the place itself. Geographical wine designation regulated in 2003, which protected the traditional wine production of the municipalities of Abanilla and Fortuna, in the eastern part of the Región de Murcia. The regulations recommended red varieties such as garnacha, monastrell and tempranillo, and white ones such as airén, merseguera, moscatel de alejandría, pedro ximénez, verdil and macabeo. Over time the geographical indication fell out of use, after the closure of the last winery that produced wine under it.
