Mahoya Nature · Abanilla, Oriental, Murcia Mahoya is a district of the municipality of Abanilla, in the Region of Murcia, located just three kilometres from the town, in the plain formerly known as La Huerta, a name under which it already appears in 16th-century documents. It became well connected to the urban centre after the construction, in 1917, of the bridge over the Chícamo river, which historically irrigated its orchards, as part of the works on the road from Abanilla to Pinoso. Together with Barinas and Macisvenda, it is one of the largest districts of Abanilla, and is spread across numerous spots, such as the Camino del Molino, Benical -next to the river and the Mahoya weir-, Los Barrancos and Las Contiendas, on the boundary with Fortuna. In 1971 the garden next to the square and the town's renovated school were inaugurated. Photo: Fuentes1988 (Public domain) What to see and do in Abanilla
