Castle or Muslim Alcazaba of Abanilla

Monument · Abanilla, Oriental, Murcia

Image of Abanilla, not of the place itself.

Islamic fortress raised on the Lugar Alto, probably over Roman remains, which together with the mosque and the aljama formed the core of the Muslim Albanyala mentioned by the geographer Al-Idrisi in the 12th century. Its remains survive today beside the great image of the Sacred Heart that crowns the hill.
