House of the Commandery of Abanilla Monument · Abanilla, Oriental, Murcia Image of Abanilla, not of the place itself. The Casa de la Encomienda de Abanilla (Murcia) is a former administrative building that served as a store for grain paid in tribute, where the Order of Calatrava collected the municipality's tithes. Abanilla passed to this military lordship in 1434, when a descendant of the Rocafull family ceded the town to the order; the residents opposed this cession through numerous lawsuits, and over time the Encomienda's control faded away as the tribute obligations fell out of use.
