Hamlets of Torre-Pacheco Curiosity · Torre-Pacheco, Mar Menor, Murcia Image of Torre-Pacheco, not of the place itself. Torre-Pacheco (Mar Menor, Murcia) is organised into hamlets such as Balsicas, Dolores de Pacheco, El Albardinal, El Jimenado and Roldán, which emerged between the 16th and 18th centuries around the estates of landowning families who arrived in the late Middle Ages and built farming operations and defensive towers against Berber raids. In the 17th century several hermitages were built, some of which gave their name to settlements such as San Cayetano and Dolores. According to the 2021 census, Roldán is the largest hamlet with 7,154 inhabitants, followed by Balsicas (3,292), Dolores de Pacheco (2,354), El Jimenado (1,262) and El Albardinal (286); all of them share in the municipality's intensive agriculture, driven by the Tagus-Segura water transfer since 1979.
