Pilgrimage of San Blas de San Javier Activity · San Javier, Mar Menor, Murcia Image of San Javier, not of the place itself. The Saint Blaise Pilgrimage of San Javier, in Santiago de la Ribera (Mar Menor, Murcia), is held every 3 February with a procession that carries the saint's image from the church of Santiago de la Ribera to the hermitage of Saint Blaise. It was proposed in 1971 by Josefina Escudero, though it did not begin to be celebrated until 1980; today it is the most important pilgrimage in the area. It draws peñas huertanas (traditional local clubs) in typical dress and groups of horse riders in Rociero style, and migas murcianas, paellas and caldero from the Mar Menor are served, along with a craft market and attractions. Since 2004 it has been declared a Fiesta de Interés Turístico Regional (regional tourism-interest distinction) of the Region of Murcia. 3 de febrero Photo: Jialxv (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in San Javier
