Playa de Barnuevo is part of the four-kilometre stretch of beaches at Santiago de la Ribera, alongside those of El Castillico and Colón. Its name comes from the Chalet Barnuevo, one of the summer residences built by the bourgeoisie in the early 20th century in the Mar Menor area, together with others such as the Quinta de San Sebastián or the Palacio del Barón de Benifayó.
