San Javier International Jazz Festival

The San Javier International Jazz Festival has been held since 1998, when it was launched at the proposal of Alberto Nieto, a town-hall official and jazz enthusiast, with the backing of the council itself. It takes place between late June and July in San Javier, Santiago de la Ribera and La Manga del Mar Menor, and has brought together internationally renowned figures from different strands of jazz. Its main venue is the municipal auditorium in Almansa Park, with capacity for around 2,000 people and a spatial structure reminiscent of a Roman theatre. It was declared a Fiesta de Interés Turístico Regional (a regional-level tourism heritage designation) in 2004 and a Fiesta de Interés Turístico Nacional (Spain's national tourism heritage designation) in 2018.
