Tallante Curiosity · Cartagena, Campo de Cartagena, Murcia Tallante is a pedanía in the north-west of Cartagena, in the Campo de Cartagena, situated some 17 kilometres from the urban centre and at around 170 metres of altitude. The place name already appears in 1559 in references to agricultural activities, and in 1561 it had thirteen landowners who had built fortified houses, on lands that a royal ruling (Real Ejecutoria) had awarded to Cartagena in 1532 after a dispute with Murcia. Its traditional economy revolved around herding and the gathering of wild produce, such as the kermes of the mastic-tree scrub. It today comprises several settlements, among them Collado de Tallante and Ermita de Tallante. Its parish church, dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua and documented since 1803, holds the venerated image of the Virgen de la Luz.
