Palace of Aguirre Monument · Cartagena, Campo de Cartagena, Murcia Aguirre Palace, the work of the architect Víctor Beltrí, was commissioned in 1898 by the mining entrepreneur Camilo Aguirre, following the success of the Casa Cervantes, and completed in 1901, already in the early years of the 20th century; it is today home to the Regional Museum of Modern Art (MURAM), an outstanding example of the Art Nouveau architecture of Cartagena's mining bourgeoisie. Its façade features ceramic decoration of angels, a mirador in the Cartagena tradition, and sculpted bees, a modernista icon of prosperity founded on labour. Inside are preserved the ballroom, in neo-rococo décor with allegorical ceiling paintings of spring by Cecilio Pla, the office next to the mirador, the vestibule, the imperial staircase and a neo-Gothic oratory.
