Fort of Navidad Monument · Cartagena, Campo de Cartagena, Murcia Fortification located next to the lighthouse of the same name, to the right of the port of Cartagena, which protected the entrance by crossing its fire with the batteries of Santa Ana and Trincabotijas. Neoclassical in style, with casemates for eight pieces of artillery on the ground floor and another eight en barbette on the upper floor, it was built over an 18th-century en barbette battery from 1740, the work of the engineer Esteban de Panón, as part of the O'Donnell Plan or Defence Plan of 1860. Next to it stands the Torre de Navidad, a hexagonal structure possibly from the 16th century, of a design similar to that of La Azohía. Today it houses a museum display and is used by Cartagena Puerto de Culturas as part of the route on the city's defensive system. Photo: Yaco Erisso (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Cartagena
