Pilgrimage of el Milagro de Mazarrón Activity · Mazarrón, Bajo Guadalentín, Murcia Image of Mazarrón, not of the place itself. The Romería del Milagro commemorates in Mazarrón the episode of 17 November 1585, when the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception, venerated in the municipality as la Purísima or Virgen del Milagro, is said by tradition to have driven off a group of Berber corsairs who intended to sack the town; in their flight, the pirates abandoned a standard that is preserved today after a recent restoration. Every year, hundreds of people accompany the image from the church of la Purísima, in Mazarrón, to a small chapel in Bolnuevo. The day ends with a sardine moraga on the beach, usually attended by more than a thousand people. 17 de noviembre Photo: Pedro J Pacheco (CC BY-SA 3.0 es) What to see and do in Mazarrón
