Puntas de Calnegre Nature · Mazarrón, Bajo Guadalentín, Murcia A strip of unspoilt coast some 17 kilometres long, along the bay of Mazarrón, protected by the Parque Regional de Cabo Cope y Puntas de Calnegre, declared in 1992. Its unspoilt beaches, which connect with Bolnuevo, combine with cliffs and coves of great biodiversity, with six terrestrial habitats and three marine habitats of community interest. Neolithic remains have been found in its territory in the caves of cabo Cope and an Argaric settlement at the Cerro de la Cruz, and the 16th-century torre de Cope is preserved, built to warn of incursions by Barbary pirates. In 1974 the park was the scene of social opposition to a nuclear power plant project, which was ultimately withdrawn. Photo: Ingegneriadell´elizia (CC BY 3.0) What to see and do in Mazarrón
