Church of San Nicolás de Villoria Monument · Laviana, Nalón, Asturias The only Romanesque vestige in the municipality of Laviana, perhaps linked to the palace of the house of Quirós, today declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) and connected to the old Camino de Santiago of Tarna. Of the 12th-century church only the portal survives, with a lowered semicircular arch and two archivolts on columns with vegetal capitals decorated with checkerwork and zigzag patterns, since the rest was rebuilt in the 16th and 17th centuries, leaving the Romanesque work greatly altered; of the original roof only a stretch of star vault and two ashlar transverse arches are preserved, the rest having been lost in a fire in 1936. Inside it holds a Baroque altarpiece from the first two decades of the 17th century, with an Ecce Homo relief linked to the work of Antonio Borja.
