Inauguration of the Salime Reservoir Historical milestone · Grandas de Salime, Eo-Navia, Asturias Image of Grandas de Salime, not of the place itself. The Salime reservoir, on the course of the Navia river, is the third built on this river after those of Arbón and Doiras. Its gravity dam, 128 metres high, was built between 1948 and 1953 to a design by the engineer Enrique Becerril and the architect Joaquín Vaquero Palacios, and lies at the confluence of the concejos of Pesoz, Allande and Grandas de Salime; the AS-14 road runs across it. The waters flooded 685 hectares, five churches and eight bridges, covering land in these three concejos as well as in Ibias, in Asturias, and in Negueira de Muñiz, in Lugo, Galicia. With a capacity of 265.60 hm³, its use is mainly hydroelectric, although recreational and leisure activities are also organized around it. 24 de agosto de 1955 Photo: http://www.facc.info/ (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Grandas de Salime
