The Xiringüelu Activity · Pravia, Avilés, Asturias Image of Pravia, not of the place itself. El Xiringüelu is a popular Asturian dance with brisk steps, born in the 17th century and typical of the romerías (festive pilgrimages) accompanied by bagpipe and drum; it gives its name to the romería held on the first or second Sunday of August at the prau Salcéu, beside the Nalón river, in the municipality of Pravia; it used to be held in the village of Cañedo. Born in 1940 in a bar in Pravia, it now draws tens of thousands of people, more than 30,000 in recent years, in artisanal stalls put up by the village's local clubs, where cider and bollos preñaos are consumed from morning until night amid bagpipes. It is a Fiesta de Interés Turístico Regional (a regional tourist-interest designation). Photo: Zarateman (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Pravia
