Museum founded in 1902 by the Real Sociedad Bascongada de Amigos del País, housed since 1932 in a former Dominican convent built between 1544 and 1562 at the foot of Mount Urgull. It was expanded in 2011, at a cost of 28.5 million euros, with a new building by the architects Nieto and Sobejano built into the hillside. It received 151,290 visitors in 2024.
