The group's first cooperative, ULGOR, was founded in 1955 and settled permanently in Arrasate/Mondragón in 1959. In the early 1980s, the union of autonomous cooperatives gave rise to Mondragón Corporación Cooperativa (MCC), driven by the priest José María Arizmendiarrieta; today it is one of the largest cooperative corporations in the world.
