The first document linking Eibar to arms production dates from 1482, an order for bombards from the Duke of Medina Sidonia; in 1538 it received a commission to manufacture 15,000 arquebuses. In the early 20th century, many arms-making firms converted to manufacturing bicycles or sewing machines (Alfa, Orbea, BH), after the crisis that followed the First World War.
